The redevelopment of Amerikaplein means that Margraten now needs a strong spatial structure and a clear urban planning proposal. The planning area is currently isolated, lacking identity and recognisability, and indeterminate and unlimited. Through precise interventions, the existing situation will be structured and the individual character of each location will be reinforced.
Humblé Architecten's urban plan is clearly defined and evokes a sense of naturalness: the positioning and shapes of the plan draw on urban Limburg architecture and typology. Terms such as 'court building', 'monument', 'wall' and 'dwelling' fit into this image.
Regarding the residential programme, the differentiation of housing typologies adds value to this specific location. The balance between privacy, social context, activities and spatiality is a key consideration when living at Amerikaplein Margraten..
At square level, there is a mix of functional infills. In the 'wall' building block, the functions of the shop/apartment complex on Amerikaplein continue, creating a consistent square façade in the new situation.
This building block contains eight homes and six commercial spaces.
